For boards looking for a non-executive director
Three questions Dave would ask your board about AI.
If you’re looking for a non-executive director who understands technology and AI, judge Dave by the questions he’d ask. Here are three.
Before the board signs off any AI
Every job AI does needs a name beside it.
A board is asked to approve things it can’t test for itself. These three questions are how he’d test them.
1. Who checks each job AI does?
By name, job by job: this quote, this summary, this decision. And can that person change what the AI produced, or only read it?
2. Which AI tools may staff use?
And what never goes into them. If nobody has written it down, the choice is being made anyway, one phone at a time.
3. Can it be undone?
If an AI job goes wrong, can someone see what it did and put it back? If not, it stays with a person until it can.
Why Subversive
Telling the truth in a corporate meeting room is about the most subversive thing left.
On a board, that means the plain question, asked before the decision rather than after it.

“We use David for any key projects that we have and to also sense check thinking and direction, he has an excellent broad knowledge of tech.”
Dave has written about what he hears from boards: plenty of talk about AI, and much less of it in use.
